XXII IAMM TAPC ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2019

“MAN vs. MICROBE” – THE WAR THAT NEVER ENDS  
18TH To 20TH JANUARY 2019


The XXII IAMM TAPC CHAPTER Annual State Conference with theme “MAN vs MICROBE: THE WAR THAT NEVER ENDS” was organized by Osmania Medical College, on 19TH and 20TH January 2019. Dr P. Shashikala Reddy, Professor & HOD, Department of Microbiology, Principal, Osmania Medical College was the Organizing Secretary of the conference. 

The conference was preceded by Seven (7) pre conference CME & workshops on 18th January 2019.

                                The conference began with The President’s Oration delivered by Dr. P. Sreenivasulu Reddy, President IAMM TAPC Chapter on “Vaccine Preventable diseases: impact of immunization”.         Dr. K. Rajyalakshmi  Oration was delivered by Dr. Reba Kanungo on “Accreditation— A bench mark for patient safety” .  This was followed by two (2) informative guest lectures on “HPV – An  Oncopartner” by            Dr. P.  Vijayanand Reddy, Professor & Head, Department of Radiation Oncology, Director, Apollo cancer Institute, Hyderabad and on “Non Culture Methods In The Diagnosis of Fungal Infections”  by                          Dr. Shivaprakash M Rudramurthy, Professor, PGIMER, Chandigarh.  

                Three Postgraduates participated in Dr. C. S. Bhaskaran prize paper category followed by Debate on “Automation Vs Conventional Methods” between Dr. Sarguna, Professor  &  Dr. Naila Fatima, PG of Osmania Medical College and Dr. Nikhat Sheerin, Asst. Professor & Dr. Prasanna, PG of Gandhi Medical College, moderated by Dr. O. Ganesh, Director, GYD Diagnostics. Clinical case discussions session was conducted by Dr. Ranganathan Iyer, Senior Consultant Microbiologist, Global Hospitals followed by Ten (10) postgraduate scientific paper presentations in Sri B.Krishna Rao memorial Prize Category. Free scientific paper presentations were 28 and included eight Faculty papers and twenty postgraduate papers. Sixty six (66) e- posters were evaluated on the first day and twenty seven (27) were evaluated on 2nd day for Sri I S N Murty Prize category. 

General body meeting was held in the evening and Dr. P. Appa Rao, Professor & HOD of Microbiology Andhra Medical College, volunteered to conduct XXIII IAMM TAPC Annual Conference by Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam.

Inagural function was held in the evening (Presided by)attended by IAMM TAPC Chapter President: Dr. P. Sreenivasulu Reddy, Secretary: Dr. Kasturi , Treasurer: Dr. P. Vasundhara, Organising Secretary: Dr. P. Shashikala Reddy and her team of executive members of XXII IAMM TAPC Chapter and all the delegates. Dr. Rakesh Mishra, Director, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology was the Chief Guest and Dr. Nandan Singh, Senior Microbiologist was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Kasturi presented the report on association activities and Dr P. Vasundhara presented the annual report. Conference Souvenir was released by the Chief Guest and annual news letter was released by the Guest of Honour followed by a memorable event of felicitation to eight (8) senior faculty members, retired as Head of the Department of Microbiology from Osmania Medical College namely Dr. Nandan Singh, Dr. Mandakini, Dr. P. Vijayalakshmi, Dr. Mathur, Dr. Sarada, Dr. Achyut Rao, Dr. Anil Kumar Modi and Dr. Vasanti Kabra. Sumptuous food was served in the poolside banquet dinner.

Second day was started with Postgraduate quiz (Dr. Satyanarayana Murthy Prize) conducted by Dr. D.S.Murty and participated by all the delegates. This was followed by five (5) enlightening guest lectures  by Dr. V. Ravi, Professor, Dept of Neurovirology, NIMHANS, Bengaluru on “Current concepts in Acute Encephalitis Syndrome, Diagnosis and Management , Dr. P.V.Chalam, Professor of Surgery & Principal, Bhaskara Medical College on “Competency Based Medical Education –How to implement , Dr. Savitri Sharma, Director of Laboratory Services, L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad on “Pythium insidiosum keratitis – A Newly recognized entity in India , Dr. Vamsi Krishna, Consultant Medical Oncologist, Apollo cancer institute, Hyderabad on “Infections in Febrile Neutropenia-A clinician Perspective, Dr. Manick Das, Professor & HOD of Microbiology, Apollo Medical College, Hyderabad on “Fecal Microbiota Transplantation – an update.
Later Postgraduate Pedagogy (Guntur Medical College Prize) was presented by postgraduates of Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, Sri Venkateswara Medical College, Tirupati, Katuri Medical College, Guntur and GSL Medical College, Rajahmundry.     

There was panel discussion on “Adverse Events Following Immunization” conducted by Dr. Vimala Thomas and participated by Dr. Sudheera, Immunization Officer, TS, Dr. Alivelu , Assistant Professor of Paediatrics, Dr. G. Jyothi lakshmi, Professor of Microbiology. Later Senior faculty Prize (RMC prize) papers were presented followed by junior faculty prize (Smt. B. S. Lakshmi prize) papers.

In the valedictory function Prizes were awarded to winners in various competetions followed by vote of thanks by Co – Organizing Secretary Dr. G. Jyothi Lakshmi.
