16^TH SEPTEMBER TO 18^TH SEPTEMBER 2021

The XXIV IAMM TAPC ANNUAL STATE CONFERENCE-VIRTUAL with theme “Pandemics: Past ,Present and Future” was organized by Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad on 17^th & 18^th September 2021.

Dr.K.Nagamani, Professor & HOD, Department of Microbiology, Vice Principal-Academic ,Gandhi Medical College was the Organizing Secretary for the conference.

A call was received in the last week of December 2020 from the Secretary, IAMM TAPC requesting Gandhi Medical College to conduct the conference as Nimra Medical college could not conduct. As planned the dates were scheduled for physical conference in June 2021 with four preconference workshops at Gandhi Medical College, Osmania Medical College, Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences and ESIC Medical College. But due to the ongoing second wave of the pandemic, conference was rescheduled and decided to be conducted on a virtual platform in September 2021 and the pre-conference workshops/CMEs could not be conducted .

Inaugural ceremony was conducted on 16^th September on a hybrid mode from 2PM to 4PM.

Inagural function started with a welcome note and introduction to the theme of the conference given by Dr.G.J.Archana . The ceremony was presided by IAMM TAPC Chapter President: Dr. P. Appa Rao, Secretary: Dr. P.Kasturi , Organising Secretary: Dr. K.Nagamani ,Our Guest of honour Dr.K.Hemalatha ,Director NIN, Hyderabad,Our patrons -Dr.G.Prakash Rao, Principal, Gandhi Medical College & Dr.M.Raja Rao, Superintendent, Gandhi Hospital ,the team of executive members of IAMM TAPC Chapter (2020-2021) attended in person and all the delegates joined online for the inauguration session.

Dr.Kasturi presented the report on association activities. Conference Souvenir was released by the Chief Guest followed by a memorable event of felicitation to five senior Professors retired from the department of Microbiology,Gandhi Medical College, Dr.S.Shymala, Dr.P.Vijayalakshmi, Dr.Gyaneshwari, Dr.Nirmal Saxena and Dr.P.R.Anuradha and cultural programs .This was followed by a tribute to the legends of Microbiology-Dr.K.R.L.Suryakirani, Dr.K.Sree Rama Rao, Dr.P.A.Jayakar and Dr.B.Raja Rao.

The conference started on 17^th September ,9:00AM with four enlightening guest lectures first by Dr. Lalit Dar,Professor In-charge, Virology Laboratory,Department of Microbiology, AIIIMS, New Delhi on “India In The Pandemic Age” followed by Dr.Varsha Potdar PhD ,Scientist 'D' & Head National Influenza centre ,ICMR- National Institute of Virology on “Influenza- a potential Pandemic Agent ” , then we had Dr. Rajyalakshmi Memorial Oration Award-“Elimination Of Pandemic Cholera” by Dr. T. Ramamurthy PhD, INSA-Senior Scientist, ICMR-National Institute of Choler and Enteric Diseases. This was followed by session on Vaccines For Pandemic” by Raju Sunagar, PhD.,Senior Scientist,Ella Foundation,Bharat Biotech Int Ltd and “ Management of Pandemic” by Dr. M.Raja Rao,Superintendent, Gandhi Hospital,Professor, Department of General Medicine, Gandhi Medical College and Hospital . which was followed by lunch break.

In the post lunch session we had Dr.C.S.Bhaskaran award session where two post graduates participated followed by Sri Krishna Rao Memorial Prize Category where 11 post graduates participated .Then we had free paper presentations in bacteriology & virology and E-POSTER sessions in Bacteriology.

General body meeting was held in the evening at 6:30pm which was conducted in a hybrid mode.Presidents message was given by Dr.P.Appa Rao,Secretary’s Message was given by Dr. P.Kasturi ,Treasury report was given by Dr. Vasundara and the new executive body members were introduced and the possible venue for the next conference was decided as RIMS ,Cudapa.

Day 2 of the conference -18^th September 2021 started with PG Quiz ((Dr. Satyanarayana Murthy Prize) conducted by Dr.Md.Khaleel ,Professor of Microbiology,Deccan Medical College,Hyderabad followed by Presidential Oration by Dr.P.Appa Rao on Solutions to COVID-19 crisis :Concepts of Universal Vaccines. Then we had Postgraduate Pedagogue (Guntur Medical College Prize) where post graduates from Andhra Medical College,Vishakapatnam , Guntur Medical College, Guntur ,Kamineni academy Of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, Osmania Medical College ,Hyderabad, and Sri Venkateshwara Medical College,Tirupathi participated. T his was followed by Dr.Rangaraya Medical College-Senior Faculty Award(Two participnats) And Smt. B.S Laxmi Memorial Prize for Junior Faculty award sessions (Six Participants) . It was then followed by Free paper presentations and E-poster presentations in Bacteriology, Virology, Parasitology and Mycology. Overall Forty Six (46) free oral presentations and fifty nine(59) E-Posters were presented . Following tea break we had CBME topic for panel discussion on challenges faced in implementation of CBME curriculum in Microbiology moderated by Dr.K.Saileela ,Professor and HOD ,Katuri Medical College and OSPE-Model MD Microbiology Practical exam session by Dr. K.Nagamani,Professor nad HOD ,Department of Microbiology

            In the valedictory function Prizes were announced and awarded to the winners in various categories. All the winners were awarded gold plated silver medals . Two new prizes were introduced in free oral presentations for post graduates for which Rs.1,00,000/- was handed . This was followed by vote of thanks.
